Dr. Bo Li

Dr. Bo LiDr. Bo Li is an internationally recognized leader in refractive surgery, premium cataract surgery, and complex anterior segment surgery. He balances a rewarding career in surgical Ophthalmology with a broad base of interprofessional initiatives involving research and teaching at the local, provincial, national, and international level. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry of Western University in London, Ontario.

Dr. Li is a proud local Londoner. He graduated from Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School and obtained his Bachelor of Medical Science (BMSc) at the University of Western Ontario as the gold medalist of his graduating year (highest graduating average of the graduating class). Subsequently, he received the Doctorate in Medicine degree from University of Ottawa. Following his MD degree, Dr. Li returned to London and completed his ophthalmology residency training at the Ivey Eye Institute of St. Joseph’s Health Care London (SJHC) and Western University.

In 2017, Dr. Li completed his surgical fellowship in complex anterior segment, anterior segment reconstruction, refractive surgery, cornea, and premium cataract surgery at the world-renowned Cincinnati Eye Institute (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA). His practice focuses on advanced refractive surgery, premium cataract surgery, and complex anterior segment surgery. He holds full medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and the state medical board of Ohio (Ohio, USA). Dr. Li is internationally recognized for his skills and contributions to the field of ophthalmology. He is an invited speaker/instructor at major international ophthalmology conferences, including American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and Cataract Surgery Telling It Like It Is (CSTILI). Furthermore, Dr. Li is the liaison for the Canadian Cornea, External Disease & Refractive Surgery Society and Practice Resource Centre of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS).

With a passionate interest in ophthalmic innovation and research, Dr. Li has presented more than 30 projects/innovations at national and international ophthalmic conferences and has published more than 20 peer reviewed papers in the field of ophthalmology. Furthermore, Dr. Li was involved with multiple U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) trials in surgical innovation and he is actively working to bring his own patent and surgical innovations to patient care.

Currently, Dr. Li’s practice and research interests include artificial intelligence in refractive and cataract surgeries, advanced topography-guided and ray-tracing treatment algorithms for laser vision corrections (LASIK/PRK), and understanding the physiological and sociological benefits of maximizing vision in the senior and vulnerable population.
